Roseland 12 – St Agnes 24
Saturday afternoon brought a welcome return of league rugby following a fortnight of no rugby due to a Walk Over and a Bye week. Roseland welcomed St Agnes to Philleigh for what was hoping to be a close fought encounter.

Just to confirm the Vets game on the 12th November at Perranporth against Bolingey will kick off at 1pm not 3pm as previously communicated.
Sorry for the confusion.
Roseland 40 – Perranporth 15
Saturday afternoon saw perfect rugby conditions with both the weather and the condition on the pitch, special thanks to Ben Taylor and Shaun Eamers on the pitch. It was also Roselands Ladies and Family Day with plenty of wives, girlfriend and children on the sidelines.
Roseland 3 – Liskard-Looe 63
On Saturday afternoon Roseland welcomed Liskard Looe to Philleigh for the first home game of the 2017/18 season.
Roseland had a long list of players unavailable via injury and other commitments. Nearly as many were unavailable as were available. The squad of players that took to the field put in a 110% shift though and unfortunately the score line didn’t really do the players justice.
Newquay 22 – Roseland 16
Saturday afternoon saw the return of junior rugby to the playing fields of Cornwall. Roselands first task was a trip to the Newquay Sports Centre to play last seasons Cornwall One Runners Up Newquay. The format for this season was the same as last year with all the teams playing each other once before splitting into Cornwall One and Two after Christmas.
As our usual match reporter was unable to attend today I’m afraid it falls to me to report on today’s cup final.
I’m not great at recalling the details, so I apologise for any inaccuracies, and if the try scorers would like their names added – I’d be happy to do that. Just let me know.
However, I can hopefully convey the overall feel of the afternoon.
In one word it was WET.
It’s been a rainy day in Bodmin.
Which made conditions pretty slippy, although not muddy.
And made for a compelling and hard-fought final.
The ascendancy switched back and forth between Roseland and Helston. A scenario which came as a shock to everyone involved – not least because the majority of the Roseland team were on tour this weekend, and several were spotted still in the pub last night!!
To say they looked a bit peaky pre-match would be an understatement.
However, like true Roseland players once the whistle went they dug in, and both attacked and defended supremely well. Scoring 2 tries to Helston’s one in the first quarter.
After that the scoring slowed a bit, but the game continued to bat backwards and forwards.
With 10 minutes to go we were in the lead – 18-19 after Davo converted a penalty.
But unfortunately Helston came back and scored again leaving the final score 21-19.
It was a cracking game to watch, and those spectators who braved the weather, the car park, and the traffic (to whom we are really grateful for their support) thoroughly enjoyed the match, and loudly applauded the team off the pitch.
Also thanks to Shaun Eamers who stepped in to the role of coach and Physio.
It was a strong (if ultimately disappointing) game to end the season.
I hope everyone enjoys their coming weeks off – and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the club on July 4th when summer training starts at Philleigh (and the AGM afterwards!).
In the meantime look out for the Lions Tour competition – coming soon.
The end of our jam-packed season is in sight – and it will end with us contesting the final of the Cornwall Cup Plate.
Our game kicks off at 1.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday – 1st May.
Please come up to Bodmin RFC to cheer lads on to victory.
If you’ve not been to Bodmin RFC before it’s really easy to get to:
On Easter Saturday Roseland travelled to Helston’s King George V playing fields to face Helston in the first fixture of their round robin cup competition which also features St Agnes.
On Saturday Roseland entertained local rivals St Agnes at Philleigh for the penultimate league game of the 2016/17 season. Needing a win to lift them off the bottom of the table Roseland duly responded on their inaugural “Family Day”.
