SAD NEWS

We are sad to report the passing of two great stalwarts of the Club and would like to extend our condolences to their families.

Jill Greet, a life-long resident of Portscatho, passed away recently at the age of 91 years after a short illness. She was a Vice-President of the Club since its founding in 1971. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of Penryn and latterly the Cornish Pirates and was often to be seen at the Mennaye. Jill never failed to pay her subscription to our Club by a cheque in the post every year for over 50 years. We will be forever grateful for her interest and support.

Tony Cowan has been well known to regular supporters on the touchline at Philleigh. He became involved with the Club in 2001 following a trip to see the British and Irish Lions in Australia with some long-standing Club members. For a number of years he took on the role of Team Secretary and became very adept at persuading, cajoling and encouraging players to turn out on Saturday whatever their very good reasons for non-availability! Tony rarely missed a game, home or away, whatever the weather. he regularly travelled with Roger Grove to games and doubtless their combined analysis would have ensured regular victories, if only we could have listened! Tony always enjoyed a couple of pints after the game and a chat with the players and the other supporters. He was much valued as a friend and respected by all who knew him. Tony passed away at home in Veryan. He will be sadly missed.
