AGM and Your Chance to Join the Committee

This year AGM is on Tuesday 3rd July at 9pm in the Community Centre. (after training)

After last year’s AGM not everyone really understood what was going on – so this year we’re aiming to make sure that isn’t the case!

Why do we have an AGM?

The Annual General Meeting is the chance for the whole club to get together, wrap up the year that’s been, and decide how it wants to operate in the year to come.

Looking back we have reports from the Chairman, Treasurer, and the Club Captain.

Looking forward includes choosing the officers and committee who will run the club for the next 12 months, and then the open discussion section.

This is your chance to have a say in how the club is run, so please do come along.

New Rules

During the past 12 months we’ve been working on putting together a set of rules for the club (the current set are outdated, and don’t reflect current practice).

At the AGM, as a Club, we’ll be voting in these new rules.

The aim of the new rules is to make it really clear how and why the club runs.

 

How to put yourself forward for the committee

We’re going to be running the nominations and election process as per the new rules.

What is the “committee”?

The committee is actually formed of 2 groups:

  • The Executive Committee:
    • President, Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer & Secretary (all of whom are elected at the AGM)
    • and the Club Captain (who is appointed by the General Committee)
  • The General Committee:
    • The Executive Committee
    • Club Coach, Fixture & League Secretary, CRFU Club Representative, Social Secretary, and up to 4 more members (preferably currently playing members) (the majority of whom are elected at the AGM)
    • Up to 5 co-opted individuals as selected by the General Committee – for example if we were building the changing rooms we’d co-opt the architect on, or a tour sub committee.

So…that all means that there are 12 elected committee members:

  • President – currently David Thomas
  • Chairman – currently Rich Cotterill
  • Vice-Chairman – currently Chris Thomas
  • Treasurer – currently Catherine Thomas
  • Secretary – currently Chloe Thomas
  • Fixture & League Secretary – currently Owen Rawlings
  • CRFU Club Representative – currently David Williams
  • Social Secretary – currently vacant
  • 4 members (ideally playing members)

That is several fewer committee members than we currently have.

How do the elections work?

Getting nominated – before the AGM – Deadline Thursday 28th June

Before the AGM all nominations for committee members must be made in writing by letter or email to the Secretary at least 5 days ahead of the AGM – so by Thursday 28th June.

A nomination must be ‘signed’ by the proposer and seconder after permission has been given by the nominee.

If you want to stand for a position on the committee then you need to:

  • Find 2 paid-up members of the club (players or VPs) who are happy to Propose and Second you for your chosen position.
  • Send a letter with all 3 of your signatures, or an email with all 3 of you cc’d to secretary@roselandrfc.com
  • The letter/email should read something like this:
    • “Nominating Jonny Wilkinson for the position of General Committee Member, proposed by Sam Betty, seconded by Martin Johnson”
  • Get it to me by Thursday 28th June

If you think someone would be a good fit for the committee, then do nominate them, BUT make sure they want to do it first!

We will be checking that everyone who has been nominated wants to do it, that everyone who is proposing and seconding wanted to as well, and that all of them are paid up members of the club.

The election – at the AGM

When we get to relevant part of the meeting the nominations will be confirmed.

If there is only one nomination for a position that person will be elected.

If there are multiple nominations for a position (or more than 4 nominations for general committee members) then a ballot will be held.

If there are no nominations for a position, the Chairman can ask the those at the meeting if anyone wishes to stand.

The Ballot Process – at the AGM

Each nominee will have a chance to speak to the meeting.

Following which the nominees will be asked to leave the room, and a vote will happen.

Each paid up member of the club who is at the AGM will have one vote.

Awards Evening & Semi Final News…

Cup Semi Final: Saturday 5th May

This Saturday we’ll be hosting (yup it’s a home game!) St Agnes in the Semi Final of the cup – see you at Philleigh for a 3pm kick off.

Awards Evening / Dinner Dance Replacement: Saturday 9th June

It would be fair to say we’re all VERY excited about this one.

Dinner Dance News

Unfortunately we’re having to cancel this year’s dinner dance (was due to be 11th May) as the Alverton have double booked us.

The good news is… instead we’re going to have an Awards Presentation Night at the Roseland Inn!

Full details haven’t yet been sorted out, so watch out for updates here by the end of the month.

Alternative post-match venue for Saturday’s home game

This Saturday (7th April) we will NOT be heading to the Roseland Inn after our home game.

The pub has been booked for a wake, so we’ve agreed to head elsewhere.

The lucky venue who will be hosting us on Saturday after match is The Punchbowl and Ladle in Penelewey  (so yes, you will need to cross on the King Harry Ferry!).

An obvious choice to visit one of our past players, landlord Graham Hill.

Hope to see you all there after the game.

End of season fixtures updates

There’s a few changes to the end of season fixtures schedule (all noted on the fixture list)

The new list is as follows:

  • 31st March – St Agnes – Away – League
  • 7th April – Camborne School of Mines – Home – League
  • 14th April – rearranged – Bodmin – Home – League
  • 7th May – Cup Semi Final
  • 2nd June – Cup Final

The Cup draw will be made on 29th April (so long as all league fixtures have been completed).

Roger meets Eddie

This year we nominated long-time club supporter, and past President Roger Grove for one of the RFU volunteer awards days.

Roger was lucky enough to get picked, and took Nathan Chapman (past captain, and current No. 8) along for the event.

From the stories they were sharing on Saturday, and the pictures below it’s safe to say they had an amazing day at Twickenham for the England v Ireland game earlier this month.

Early kick off tomorrow!

Apologies for the late notice, but it’s been unavoidable.

Tomorrow’s home game will kick off at 12.30pm – so as not to clash with the England 6 Nations game.

Bodmin Home Game Postponed

The CRFU have cancelled all games this weekend, to avoid the dangers of travelling in the current conditions.

We’ll let you know as soon as our game is rearranged.
