Roseland suffer defeat at Veor

Veor 40 – Roseland 8

Saturday afternoon saw the start of the 2018/19 rugby season for Roseland who played Veor at Redruth Albany, Veor are ground sharing with Albany for the moment, in the preliminary rounds of the National Cup.

Both sides entered the fixture not at full strength with players working, on holiday or with other sporting commitments.

The scoreline certainly didn’t do the game justice. Veor capitalised on some Roseland mistakes and also had slightly more savvy players in regards to rugby as Roseland had several youngsters and debutants playing, all of whom done themselves proud, whilst the senior players guided their young apprentices through a tough fixture.

The young centre partnership of Joe Hitchings and Callum Grahamslaw really acquitted themselves well against an experienced Veor back line. Callum carried and defended superbly and Joe had a fine game that he capped off by scoring Roselands try and carried several Veor players over the line with him.
Roselands other points came from a penalty kick by fly half Tom Day in the first half.

Roseland were bouyed by their efforts during the game as the pack held its own against a much bigger opposition and the backs moved the ball well and looked threatening with what little ball they had.

Sadly Roselands home fixture versus Newquay this Saturday (8th) has had to be cancelled.

Roselands next fixture is then an away game versus Bodmin on Saturday 15th at 3pm.
