End of Season Awards Night
On Saturday night Roseland RFC held their end of season awards night. Previously this is held at The Alverton in Truro however this year we done things differently.
It was held at The Roseland Inn at Philleigh (our usual clubhouse) and we took over the pub and had a sit down hog roast. The evening was very informal although everyone still dressed up. Everyone had a thoroughly good time, even the lads that had spent the day at Royal Cornwall Show sampling the beer tents.
Roseland celebrated what had been on the whole a successful season with a mid table finish. The club has retained ans recruited well over the season and coach Andy Day committed for at least another 5 years (according to Chairman Richard Cotterill).
There wasn’t an official speaker but Chairman Richard Cotterill, Coach Andy Day and Captains Andrew Stark and Anthony Thomas all said a few words thanking players, supporters and everyone connected to the club for there continued support and commitment.
The winners of the awards for the night were:
Tourist of the Year – Dan Wilkins
Top Try Scorer – Christian Bembow
Most Imoroved Played -Nick Johns
Supporters Player of the Year – Ed Llewellyn
Clubman of the Year – Andy Day
Players Player – Joe Davidson
For all current players and anybody interested in joining Roseland RFC preseason training starts at 7pm Tuesday 3rd July at Philleigh followed by the Clubs A.G.M.
Bodmin Snatch it at the Death
Roseland 20 Bodmin 31
Report by T.O.G Corners Nick Sylvester
After three consecutive wins Roseland had good reason for optimism ahead of the final league game of the season against Bodmin. After so many months of extreme weather all concerned were grateful for an overdue return to some good playing and spectating conditions.
Roseland complete “double” over Park…..
Roseland 21 Illogan Park 17
Report by T.O.G Corners Nick Sylvester.
Roseland leapfrogged Illogan Park into fifth position in the league following last Saturday’s clash at Philleigh in a wholehearted contest played in appalling conditions. Steady rain on an already saturated pitch together with a cold albeit relatively gentle north easterly breeze tested both players and spectators alike.
Roseland conquered by Veor…..again!
Roseland 6 Veor 22
Match report by T.O.G. Corners Nick Sylvester
Roseland’s run of defeats against Veor continued in last Saturday’s lunchtime fixture in cold but dry conditions with a keen cross wind. Inevitably the “going” was heavy -rugby’s equivalent to The Cheltenham Festival earlier in the week – such that it was never likely to be good for running rugby.
Bembow Brace Not Enough
Newquay 39 – Roseland 15
Saturday afternoon Roseland travelled to Newquay Sports Centre to face third placed Newquay Hornets in the Tribute Cornwall One League.
Roseland Suffer Shock Home Defeat
Another fine report by T.O.G. Corner regular Nick Sylvester.
Roseland 22 St Agnes 29
At last the heavens provided some dry weather for this eagerly awaited Sponsors Day fixture against St Agnes while presenting an excellent opportunity for Roseland to build on last week’s away win at Illogan Park. Although the visitors have already failed to fulfil a couple of league fixtures in 2018, Roseland were well aware that St Agnes still possess plenty of talent and experience from within their small squad, having suffered a home defeat back in October.
