Great news is that we’ve got a solid squad for the competition – so now it’s time to make sure the team and supporters can get there.
So we have a bus (yes, a bus for everyone!) timetable as follows:
On the way back we’ll be leaving Camborne at around 7/8pm.
As our usual match reporter was unable to attend today I’m afraid it falls to me to report on today’s cup final.
I’m not great at recalling the details, so I apologise for any inaccuracies, and if the try scorers would like their names added – I’d be happy to do that. Just let me know.
However, I can hopefully convey the overall feel of the afternoon.
In one word it was WET.
It’s been a rainy day in Bodmin.
Which made conditions pretty slippy, although not muddy.
And made for a compelling and hard-fought final.
The ascendancy switched back and forth between Roseland and Helston. A scenario which came as a shock to everyone involved – not least because the majority of the Roseland team were on tour this weekend, and several were spotted still in the pub last night!!
To say they looked a bit peaky pre-match would be an understatement.
However, like true Roseland players once the whistle went they dug in, and both attacked and defended supremely well. Scoring 2 tries to Helston’s one in the first quarter.
After that the scoring slowed a bit, but the game continued to bat backwards and forwards.
With 10 minutes to go we were in the lead – 18-19 after Davo converted a penalty.
But unfortunately Helston came back and scored again leaving the final score 21-19.
It was a cracking game to watch, and those spectators who braved the weather, the car park, and the traffic (to whom we are really grateful for their support) thoroughly enjoyed the match, and loudly applauded the team off the pitch.
Also thanks to Shaun Eamers who stepped in to the role of coach and Physio.
It was a strong (if ultimately disappointing) game to end the season.
I hope everyone enjoys their coming weeks off – and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the club on July 4th when summer training starts at Philleigh (and the AGM afterwards!).
In the meantime look out for the Lions Tour competition – coming soon.
The end of our jam-packed season is in sight – and it will end with us contesting the final of the Cornwall Cup Plate.
Our game kicks off at 1.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday – 1st May.
Please come up to Bodmin RFC to cheer lads on to victory.
If you’ve not been to Bodmin RFC before it’s really easy to get to:
Hot off the press!
(and different to what I’ve been telling people – sorry about that!)
Great to see so many of the Roseland family turn out yesterday – and we got some great pics with everyone sporting their hoodies!
Click on any of them to see the full size image.
This Sat is our last home league game of the year – would be great to get as many of the Roseland family along for the day.
Kick off will be at 3pm (clock’s changed this weekend – you did notice didn’t you?), then all back to the pub afterwards.
Please bring along your hoodies (large and small!) as we’ll be taking a photo of as many hoody-wearers as possible at the pub after the game.
See you there to cheers the team to (hopefully!) victory against St Agnes.
There will also be a chance to get your dinner and dance tickets.
The annual Dinner Dance and prize giving is on Friday 21st April; and it’s now time to get your tickets.
This year we’re back at the Alverton again – so expect some great food, entertaining speeches, great booze, and some very unique dancing.
We also have an awesome line up of speakers (expect some very interesting stories and plenty of laughter).
Dress code is ‘black tie preferred’, however you won’t feel out of place in a lounge suit. (Ladies that means cocktail or full length evening dress).
Whether you’re a current player, occasional supporter, or one of our legends (you know who you are!) we’d love you to join us to celebrate another great Roseland season.
Prices are:
We start at 7-7.30
