Bolingey Kick Off Update – 1pm not 3pm

Just to confirm the Vets game on the 12th November at Perranporth against Bolingey will kick off at 1pm not 3pm as previously communicated.

Sorry for the confusion.

Land’s End to John o’Groats – The 1saac Tour

Following the publication of the Sustrans 1,200 mile National Cycle Route from Land’s End to John o’Groats, which uses many low-traffic roads and traffic-free tracks, Chris Thomas and Andy Day decided to give it a go. They are raising money for their three chosen charities – the British Heart Foundation, UNICEF and the Cornwall Air Ambulance representing personal, global and local concerns.

The ride is sponsored by Pasco’s Boatyard, Rhos Construction and Skinner’s Brewery. [Read more…]

The New Season is Here!

Only a handful of days until the first game, so I thought I’d post an update with some of the key things coming up this season.

Saturday 2nd September

First league game of the season – it all kicks off at 3pm at Newquay Hornets. So come along and help us kick off the season with a win.

Saturday 9th September

Even better than the first game of the season, it’s our first home game of the season. We usually get a lot of support for this one – so please come along and enjoy the last of the summer sun.

Kick off 3pm, against Liskeard-Looe

Saturday 23rd September

We’re combining Ladies Day and Family Day into one event – so all ladies and family of the club, please come along to this home game!

Kick off 3pm, against Perranporth

Veterans Team

This season brings us a second team, the Veterans Team. They had their first outing at the end of the last season, and have at least one match already lined up this year.

Sunday 12th November against the Bolingey Barbarians. Kick off is 3pm at Perranporth, and the 3rd half will be in the Bolingey Inn. It’s all in aid of charity so we’ll be donating the raffle and pitch collection from our home game the day before.

Be great to see a strong Roseland contingent to cheer the old boys on.

1saacs

This September our Vice Chairman Chris Thomas and our Head Coach Andy Day will be cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats.

Will add details of the just giving page etc as soon as I have them

Their first day is the 23rd September – they’ll be finishing at Philleigh so come along to Ladies Day and you’ll be able to cheer them to the day one finish line!

21st May Vets day – there’s a bus!

Full details of the event are here

Great news is that we’ve got a solid squad for the competition – so now it’s time to make sure the team and supporters can get there.

So we have a bus (yes, a bus for everyone!) timetable as follows:

  • 10.15am pick up at St Mawes social club
  • through Ruan High Lanes, Tregony, Probus and Truro
  • We’ll be at Camborne for 11.30

On the way back we’ll be leaving Camborne at around 7/8pm.

And you thought the rugby was over for the season – we’re entering Bolingey’s Vets Day

Former Captain Nathan Chapman has taken it upon himself to organise entering a Roseland RFC team for Bolingey Barbarians Round Robin Veterans Day.
– Sunday May 21st
– from 12noon
– Camborne RFC
Would be great to get lots of supporters there to cheer on the Roseland Vets!
PLUS – would you like to play?
In this case ‘Veteran’ means over 32, and Nathan’s keen to have a nice large squad for the afternoon’s matches.
If you’d like to know more/volunteer your services – either contact Nathan direct, or fill in the form on the website and I’ll pass on your info.

What a final!

As our usual match reporter was unable to attend today I’m afraid it falls to me to report on today’s cup final.

I’m not great at recalling the details, so I apologise for any inaccuracies, and if the try scorers would like their names added – I’d be happy to do that. Just let me know.

However, I can hopefully convey the overall feel of the afternoon.

In one word it was WET.

It’s been a rainy day in Bodmin.

Which made conditions pretty slippy, although not muddy.

And made for a compelling and hard-fought final.

The ascendancy switched back and forth between Roseland and Helston. A scenario which came as a shock to everyone involved – not least because the majority of the Roseland team were on tour this weekend, and several were spotted still in the pub last night!!

To say they looked a bit peaky pre-match would be an understatement.

However, like true Roseland players once the whistle went they dug in, and both attacked and defended supremely well. Scoring 2 tries to Helston’s one in the first quarter.

After that the scoring slowed a bit, but the game continued to bat backwards and forwards.

With 10 minutes to go we were in the lead – 18-19 after Davo converted a penalty.

But unfortunately Helston came back and scored again leaving the final score 21-19.

It was a cracking game to watch, and those spectators who braved the weather, the car park, and the traffic (to whom we are really grateful for their support) thoroughly enjoyed the match, and loudly applauded the team off the pitch.

Also thanks to Shaun Eamers who stepped in to the role of coach and Physio.

It was a strong (if ultimately disappointing) game to end the season.

I hope everyone enjoys their coming weeks off – and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the club on July 4th when summer training starts at Philleigh (and the AGM afterwards!).

In the meantime look out for the Lions Tour competition – coming soon.
